Event Horizons. 2021- ongoing.

Event Horizon is an ongoing series of improvised sound compositions exploring moments of significant irreversible change that can occur in people’s lives.

Each of these compositions attached to the recordings is composed in a way that aims to replicate a sense of transition or shifting in perspective to give a sense of sonically being pulled towards an event horizon.

Any samples were acquired with the permission of interviewees or from public domains.

A conversation with Mark from ‘Slab City’ speaking about his reasons for rejecting society and moving to the harsher conditions of Slab City -an ‘Off Grid’ desert community in California.

A wealthy space entrepreneur discussing colonising Mars and his later confession that he doesn’t want to be himself.

An improvised composition with 3-year-old Ferris.

Vortice. 2023

Borrowing from Pauline Oliveros’ practice of Quantum Listening and Theodore Reik’s psychoanalytic text ‘Listening with the Third Ear’, this piece was one of the compositions created with analogue and digital sampling while working as an art therapist in a care home for elderly community members.

Rose regularly illustrates with friend and long-term collaborator Harry Denniston.

3 out of 56 ‘Diagrams of Cool’ Exhibited Chelsea, London, 2014. Rose Interviews people asking them to plot pivotal moments in their lives when they have gone up or down in their own understanding of being ‘cool’. Exhibited at Chelsea College of Art and Design. Recipient of the Rosalie Schweiker award and commended in Wired Magazine.

Linear X' 2019

‘Linear x’ -referencing Linear B syllabic script that was used for writing in Mycenaean Greek, the earliest attested form of the Greek language.

Part of 1st Solo Exhibition at The Birdcage, Norfolk. The drawings and figures were made from movements made whilst listening to Talking Heads’ album Stop Making Sense.
